I had tried champagne before of course, but this is when I start to sound "snobby" to some. So please bear with me. In all honesty you can taste the difference between an expensive champagne and a cheap sparkling. It truly annoys me how some people say there is no difference and that it all tastes the same. If you prefer the taste of a knife going down your throat and a harsh aftertaste I would recommend sparkling. Sparkling is what I believe is the reason so many people dislike champagne (they think they are drinking champagne, when really its the non-French version -LEAVE CHAMPAGNE TO THE FRENCH PEOPLE!).
I am no champagne connoisseur I can only say what I feel when I taste it. So in essence it's just an opinion, one which many may not share.
To taste champagne such as Dom Perignon can convert even the biggest anti-champagne drinker (this has happened to several people I know).
Champagne to me is the essence of every gathering or celebration, it can only be truly enjoyed to it's full potential around those who are special. While I could drink a bottle to myself, by myself, it defeats the whole role that champagne should play in life.

*In victory, you deserve Champagne, in defeat, you need it –Napolean Bonaparte
*A cause may be inconvenient, but it’s magnificent. It’s like champagne or high heels, and one must be prepared to suffer for it. –Arnold Bennett
*Can you imagine opening a bottle of champagne with a bottle opener. I can’t. It would eliminate half the fun. –Alain De Vogue
*There comes a time in every woman's life when the only thing that helps is a glass of champagne. –Bette Davis
*Burgundy makes you think of silly things; Bordeaux makes you talk about them, and Champagne makes you do them.- Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin
*My only regret in life is that I did not drink more Champagne - John Maynard Keynes
My Favourite Quote goes to:
* Come quickly, I am tasting the stars! -
Dom Perignon, at the moment he discovered champagne
